WASTE AND RUBBISH FIRE AT WINGFIELD
18/10/2013
The MFS advises that a fire at a Wingfield waste depot is still active and expected to remain burning for the entire weekend. (October 19 and 20, 2013).
Members of the South Australian public should consider the likelihood of smoke to be prevalent throughout the northern suburbs during this period.
The MFS encourages South Australian families to consider this hazard as part of their weekend planned activities.
''Parents should consider the involvement of their children in sports matches across the weekend, particularly if the child may suffer from respiratory difficulty such as asthma,'' Assistant Chief Fire Officer Glenn Benham said.
''Families should also avoid Wingfield and surrounding suburbs unless it is necessary to visit that area.''
Variable winds are expected over the weekend, making the movement of smoke unpredictable.
MFS crews have had much success in knocking down this fire since it broke out on Wednesday.
While the risk to public of smoke is diminishing, it remains evident.
Crews will remain at the scene of this fire throughout the weekend to continue efforts to completely extinguish this blaze.
The MFS encourages residents in the vicinity of Wingfield to continually assess smoke drift, keep all windows and doors shut and turn off air conditioners if it is necessary to do so.
