When and how do I apply?

Applications for firefighter positions are only accepted during an active campaign, and are submitted via an online application form. When the campaign is launched, a link to the form will be provided on the MFS website.

Applications are accepted for a period of approximately 2 weeks. Late applications will not be accepted.

Please monitor this website closely for advance notice of any recruitment campaign.

Do I need to submit my CV or any other documents with my application?

No, you are not required to submit a CV or any documents with your initial online application. However, these documents will be called upon at a later date, should you progress.

How often do you advertise?

Applications for the MFS are determined by operational requirements within the MFS. This can fluctuate due to retirements, promotions, and other reasons.

The MFS is anticipating a significant number of resignations and retirements over the next 3 – 5 years. To combat this, the MFS intend on launching Firefighter Recruitment and Selection Campaigns on an annual basis.

Do I have to pay for any of the recruitment selection testing?

The MFS has introduced a fee to participate in the Firefighter Recruitment and Selection Process. The fee is $100 per applicant and wholly contributes to expenses incurred by the MFS in the administration, testing and processing of applications. The MFS do not retain any part of this fee.

The fee is not refundable.

Holders of the Department of Human Services issued concession card may be exempt from paying the administration fee. If you are claiming exemption, you will be required to present your card as evidence. Failure to present the card will exclude you from progressing in the process.

When will the next firefighter recruitment and selection process commence?

The MFS recruit on a needs basis, and will update this website with advice as soon as a campaign launch date has been confirmed. We encourage you to closely monitor this website.

Is there a limit to how many times I can apply?

Online Applications carry a lifecycle of 2 years. You are ineligible to reapply within the 2 year lifecycle period.

Any applicant who deliberately supplies false, incomplete or misleading information in an attempt to gain employment with MFS will be disqualified from further consideration for employment.
