Colouring In Sheet - Matches and Lighters

Recommended for Year 2 - Year 4 school year level.

Ask your children what toys are, and lead the response to "safe things that you can play with".

Then ask them if they think that tools are safe things to play with. Comment that tools have one thing in common in that most of them can hurt you.

Then discuss what matches and lighters are (tools or toys), and when you have established that they are tools, draw the link that they can hurt you to, so children must not play with them.

If you are talking with children around five years or less tell them that if they find matches or a lighter they should always tell an adult and never touch them.

If you are talking with older children tell them that they should only use matches and lighters in the presence of an adult who is supervising.
